Vase Care, Cleaning, and Maintenance

• Regular cleaning of your glass vases will keep your floral arrangements looking fresher longer. Wash a vase with soap and water every time you change its arrangement to eliminate leftover bacteria. If soap and water are not appropriate for cleaning a particularvase, use a mix of vinegar and Windex, or a diluted cleaning alcohol.
• Take extra care with your favorite vases by cleaning with a soft, lint-free cloth. Abrasive cloths or even paper towels can produce faint surface scratches over time.
• Vinegar is excellent for treating minor stains on a glass vase. Lemon juice also possesses stain-fighting properties that will help with vase care.
• Interior vase stains that are hard to reach can be cleaned with denture cleaning tablets. Fill the glass vase with enough water to dissolve the tablets, and leave this solution in the vase overnight.
• Thoroughly dry your vases after any cleaning or maintenance procedure to prevent water marks. Always dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
• If you need to put your vases in storage, cover them with protective wrapping to avoid chips or scratches. Avoid stacking vases if at all possible.
• When handling vases for care and cleaning, avoid wearing any rings, watches, or even large buttons that might scratch or damage the vase surface.
• Because vases made from crystal contain trace amounts of lead, washing them in a dishwasher or with hot water will cause surface clouding.
• Crystal vase stains should be treated with lukewarm soapy water. A crystal vase cleaning trick is to gently rub the stain with a little uncooked rice.
• The bottom or foot of a vase can dry out over time. To prevent erosion or damage caused by dryness, rub a little mineral oil into the vase bottom.
• If your vase develops a hairline crack, there are a few different maintenance techniques available to you. For valuable or rare vases, we recommend consulting a professional antique restorer. But for less valuable vases, go to a hobby or hardware store and purchase glue used for cracked ceramics. Avoid washing the vase until the crack has been treated as water can soak into it and worsen the vase's appearance. If the crack is not highly visible, it may be best to leave the vase in its natural state.
